I am pleased to announce that Marshall Williams, from the Department of Defense (DoD), is the new co-chair of the Cooperative! Marshall was elected to serve in this role during the monthly Steering Committee call on Wednesday. In this role Marshall will fill in for Mallory during Committee meetings, represent the Cooperative as needed in other venues, and become the chair at the end of Mallory’s term.

Marshall is a Regional Environmental Coordinator with the Army Regional Environmental and Energy Office, Southern in Atlanta. Working on Army environmental and energy issues in an eight state area across the southeast, Marshall is very familiar with much of the South Atlantic region. His work encompasses a wide variety of activities, including land management, outreach, partnership development, and especially communication and coordination aimed at finding solutions to environmental issues.

Marshall communicates with military leaders, state and federal agencies, environmental groups, state legislators, and regulatory officials to ensure that the military is able to train and operate in harmony with state and regional environmental and energy policies. He coordinates with other military service counterparts to ensure a consistent DoD approach to environmental issues. Marshall is very familiar with land management practices that preserve biological diversity since many military installations provide habitat to threatened, endangered and sensitive species. He also recognizes that successful land management is one of the keys to national military preparedness.

With Mallory Martin and Marshall Williams leading our Cooperative, I am confident that the Cooperative will make great strides in fulfilling its mission over the next several years. Please join me in congratulating/welcoming Marshall on his new position within the Cooperative.
