simeonyurekPlease give a warm South Atlantic LCC welcome to your cooperative’s newest staff member, Simeon Yurek, who will be serving in a postdoctoral researcher role for the next two years!

Simeon is a landscape and systems ecologist whose research focuses on understanding and predicting linkages between water management, hydrology, fisheries, and ecosystem services, under future scenarios of sea-level rise and climate change. He will contribute to the development of the Conservation Blueprint for addressing spatial conservation planning in the southeast region. He received his Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Miami, where he focused on simulation modeling of hydrologically-dynamic, spatially patterned wetlands. His work has provided evidence for conserving the iconic and threatened “Ridge-and-Slough” landscapes of the Everglades.

If you want to get in touch, you can reach Simeon at syurek@usgs.gov or (919) 707-0118.
