The new and exciting discoveries from deep water dives in the South Atlantic just keep on coming. You might have seen my previous post about cool stuff the Okeanos dives found in Blueprint priority areas. The next round of dives by the Atlantis found an extensive and previously undetected deepwater coral reef in a Blueprint priority area. From everything I’ve seen so far about the location, it looks like the potential for that reef to exist is predicted by the latest deepwater coral habitat suitability models we’re working on getting into a future Blueprint update. It’s great that, even without those latest updates, the other marine indicators still pulled out the area as important.
