July 20th“Integration of at-risk and range-restricted species models and strategic conservation information into the South Atlantic Conservation Blueprint – an update” with Anne Chazal, Virginia Natural Heritage Program, and Jon Oetting, Florida Natural Areas Inventory

The South Atlantic LCC is working to improve and expand the Conservation Blueprint so that it directly supports efforts to conserve current and future habitat for rare, at-risk, and range restricted species, thus allowing users to fine-tune their conservation investments. With cooperation from South Atlantic LCC staff and other regional partners, the Natural Heritage Program of the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Florida Natural Areas Inventory at Florida State University are developing species distribution models to help incorporate ten rare species into the Blueprint:  Ambystoma cingulatum (Frosted Flatwoods Salamander), Echinacea laevigata (Smooth Coneflower), Heterodon simus (Southern Hognose Snake), Lindera melissifolia (Pondberry), Lithobates capito (Gopher Frog), Lythrum curtissii (Curtiss’ Loosestrife), Notophthalmus perstriatus (Striped Newt), Phemeranthus piedmontanus (Piedmont Fameflower), Rhus michauxii (Michaux’s Sumac), and Schwalbea americana (Chaffseed). Drawing from the model products and other available data sets, this project is developing and synthesizing supporting data and information on the conservation and management needs of these species.  This webinar will be an overview of our methods and progress to date.
