Please join NOAA and the Landscape Conservation Cooperatives (LCCs) along the Gulf Coast (Peninsular Florida, South Atlantic, Gulf Coastal Plains and Ozarks and Gulf Coast Prairie) on January 17, 2013 from 1:00 – 2:30 CST (2-3:30 pm EST) for a webinar highlighting some of the newest decision support tools available for adaptation planning. Presenters will discuss the Gulf Coast Vulnerability Assessment, The Nature Conservancy Resiliency Project, Climate Wizard decision support tools and the Natural Capital Project Vulnerability Tools.

The webinar will begin with an overview by Laurie Rounds of the Gulf Coast Vulnerability Assessment being led by the Gulf of Mexico Alliance, NOAA, Gulf Landscape Conservation Cooperatives, and USGS Climate Science Centers to better understand impacts to coastal ecosystems and species from climate change, sea level rise, and land use change.

Next, Jorge Brenner, Associate Director of Marine Science at The Nature Conservancy, will showcase their new tool,, that helps decision-makers understand sea level rise and coastal storms, visualize the likely impacts and risks and identify options that minimize losses for natural and human coastal communities.

Chris Zganjar, Climate Change Ecologist and Information Specialist at The Nature Conservancy, will discuss the Climate Wizard tool. The tool generates color maps of projected temperature and precipitation changes using 16 of the world’s most prominent climate-change models. New tools on Climate Wizard now provide more options to incorporate extremes in variables such as temperature and precipitation to better understand their effects on species and the environment.

Lastly, Suzanne Langridge, Ecologist at the Natural Capital Project, and Jorge Brenner will share information on new vulnerability assessment tools by the Natural Capital Project, a partnership among Stanford University, The Nature Conservancy, the World Wildlife Fund, and the University of Minnesota to develop and provide practical ecosystem services concepts and tools.

The Gulf LCCs are excited to provide this webinar for our cooperative partners and beyond.  If you have any questions about the webinar please contact me (
