The Apalachicola/Chattahoochee/Flint (ACF) River Basin lies within the states of Georgia, Alabama, and Florida. The South Atlantic and Gulf Coastal Plains and Ozarks LCCs share the majority of this system with a small section crossing into the Appalachian LCC. To ensure that conservation planning is consistent across this important river basin, an ad-hoc group representing the respective LCC steering committees worked through a simplified Structured Decision Making (SDM) process to determine a planning process that would be both effective and maximize partner satisfaction. The results of the SDM deliberations resulted in an agreement between the two steering committees that the South Atlantic LCC will take the lead for planning across the entire basin, with appropriate consultation and coordination with the GCPO LCC science coordinator and the state of Alabama. For the small area of the ACF basin that lies in the Appalachian LCC, there will be an LCC map adjustment to include that area in the South Atlantic LCC geography.
Using this approach will provide a consistent planning framework, simplify partner input, and support seamless integration of South Atlantic LCC and GCPO LCC planning.
