The forested wetland ecosystem is one of the two ecosystems the indicator revision process will focus on this month. Just like last month, the focus will primarily be on revising or replacing indicators that have clearly failed one of the practical criteria for indicators (They cannot be modeled based on current data and existing projects).

Things are looking good so far for two of the three indicators: Acres of forested wetland and the index of forested wetland birds. A few of the bird species models within the bird index are failing the criteria but most seem to be working fine. The third indicator, Acres of natural habitat near isolated wetlands, continues to be challenging. A big part of the discussion this month will be talking about options for depicting this indicator and some potential alternative indicators.
