The freshwater aquatic ecosystem is one of the two ecosystems the indicator revision process will focus on this month. Just like last month, the focus will primarily be on revising or replacing indicators that have clearly failed one of the practical criteria for indicators (They cannot be modeled based on current data and existing projects).
Things are looking good so far for the impervious surface and riparian buffer indicators. Bill Pine and the rest of the team at UF (Ben Baiser and Christina Romagosa) have been working on an improved depiction of the third indicator: index of biotic integrity. This improved version will use fish species traits and distributions to create an index of functional diversity.
