The USDA Southeast Regional Climate Hub (SERCH) is focused on providing current and applicable climate information to land managers. One of the ways SERCH is accomplishing this is through a tool called SERCH LIGHTS, which is an email alert system that notifies subscribers when a climate-related threat is predicted for their location of choice. The prototype for SERCH LIGHTS is a drought alert that notifies subscribers when drought conditions are expected to change in the coming month for their location. You can view and subscribe to the drought alert here.
With the success of the drought prototype, SERCH is now expanding the tool to cover additional threats, such as pests, livestock heat stress, and El Niño. As we design these new alerts, we want to focus on the most important topics and select the spatial and time scales that will be useful for informing adaptive management responses. If you want to help shape the design of the new SERCH LIGHTS features, please respond to this feedback form.
