If you’ve worked much with spatial data, you know there’s always room for improvement. Now you have a chance to improve the LANDFIRE Biophysical Settings (BpS) data in our region. LANDFIRE models and descriptions represent how Biophysical Settings looked and worked prior to major European settlement. These models and descriptions are used in research and play a part in national vegetation mapping and assessment and on-the-ground management across the country.
The South Atlantic LCC used these data to help define our broad ecosystem types in Blueprint 2.1. We’d like to rely more heavily on these data in the future, especially if we can improve them by incorporating the knowledge of our Cooperative.
Our region has a “high” need for local experts to review the Biophysical Settings. That means that you have a opportunity to bring your local knowledge to inform these national data. Please check out the LANDFIRE Biophysical Settings Review Site to provide your expertise to this effort.
