Thanks to some great progress in the Piedmont, the Southeastern Grasslands Initiative is piloting an approach for measuring public perceptions of grasslands right here in the Piedmont. There will be questions related to what people think of when they hear “grassland”, benefits they know of, preferences in landscaping, attitudes toward prescribed fire, and other cool stuff. The survey will go out to a sample of the general public in a set of metropolitan regions throughout the Piedmont.
I’m really excited to see the results. Of course, I’ll share them with all of you once they come in. The idea is to do a similar survey in the other ecoregions within the Southeast as well. That will be a cool way to look at similarities and differences in different regions.
