Developing the Blueprint
The current version of the South Atlantic Blueprint, Version 2020, was released in August 2020. It is a data-driven plan based on ecosystem indicator models and a connectivity analysis. It incorporates methodological improvements, a finer spatial resolution, and new and improved indicators.

The previous version of the Blueprint, Version 2.2, was released in November 2017. It used similar methods to Blueprint 2.1 and 2.0, incorporating improved data for many of the ecosystem indicators. The release of Blueprint 2.2 also included the Blueprint implementation strategy, a regularly updated document outlining actions and approaches within Blueprint areas to improve the integrity of South Atlantic ecosystems. Blueprint 2.2 data and documentation is archived on ScienceBase.
Version 2.1 was released in August 2016. Like Blueprint 2.0, it was a data-driven plan based on ecosystem indicator models and a connectivity analysis. It used similar methods to Blueprint 2.0, incorporating improved data for many of the ecosystem indicators. Blueprint 2.1 data and documentation is archived on ScienceBase
Version 2.0 of the Blueprint was released in June 2015. This was the first data-driven iteration of the plan, based on ecosystem indicator models and a connectivity analysis. Blueprint 2.0 data and documentation is archived on ScienceBase.
Blueprint 1.0, released in March 2014, was a qualitative plan based on expert input and partner plans. Blueprint 1.0 data and documentation is archived on ScienceBase.
Both the Conservation Blueprint and the ecosystem indicators are regularly updated based on the results of testing and validation, as well as extensive feedback from the conservation community.
The next Blueprint
Further improvements to the indicators, Blueprint methods, and the online viewers are expected in Fall 2021.
Some indicators will undergo revision soon for incorporation into the next version of the Blueprint. Please check the staff blog and South Atlantic Blueprint newsletter for more information on the upcoming round of indicator revisions, and opportunities to participate.
