January 15th, 2015: “Assessing climate change vulnerability of ecosystems in the Southeast” by Jennifer Costanza, NCSU Biodiversity and Spatial Information Center
To aid regional conservation planning efforts, Dr. Jennifer Costanza assessed climate change vulnerability for twelve ecosystems in the southeastern U.S. and Caribbean. For each ecosystem, she synthesized available literature and GIS data related to three components of vulnerability: sensitivity, exposure, and adaptive capacity. Jennifer will present methods and results, especially as they relate to conservation. She will also discuss some of the challenges associated with conducting vulnerability assessments for ecosystems, which are complex assemblages of species and ecological processes.
